Finding the Blacksmith and the Forge in Manufacturing West

The Blacksmith is a stationary trader located in the Manufacturing West sector. He is easy to overlook because he stands behind a simple wooden trading box inside a large industrial building, with no prominent marker or quest directing you to him. Many players pass him during the main story progression and later need to return specifically for his unique wares.

Prerequisites for Access

Before you can reach the Blacksmith, you must complete the Office Sector and obtain a Power Cell. Use the Power Cell on the forklift that is wedged under the door leading to Manufacturing West. This action opens the path to the new sector.

Route to the Forge

Once inside Manufacturing West, follow these steps to locate the Blacksmith’s workshop, known as the Forge:

  1. Take the Tram to the Manufacturing West station.
  2. Exit the tram and proceed along the main corridor heading east.
  3. The Forge is located on the right side of the main factory floor.

Visual Cues: The Forge is identifiable by a large pot of boiling solder visible through its doorway. Inside, you will see a wooden trading box on the floor in front of the Blacksmith, surrounded by glowing heat and industrial equipment.

Base Placement Note: The upper levels of the F.O.R.G.E. structure are a short distance from the Blacksmith. Establishing a mid-game base here can reduce travel time for repeated trades.

How Trading Works

Trading with the Blacksmith requires a specific interaction. The process is a 1:1 exchange where you place a requested item into the wooden box, and he places the new item inside for you to collect.

Numbered Workflow:

  1. Stand directly in front of the wooden trading box on the floor.
  2. Open your inventory.
  3. Drag the requested item from your inventory into the wooden box. Do not drop it on the floor or on the Blacksmith’s character model.
  4. Wait for the Blacksmith to process the trade.
  5. Collect the new item from the same box.

Key Mechanics:

  • All trades are a 1:1 exchange.
  • The Blacksmith’s stock is infinite and never runs out.
  • All input items are renewable through Portal World respawns or enemy farming, making him a permanent resource source.
