Mycofields survival: fire hazards, fungal enemies, and safe resource routes
How to survive Mycofields — Abiotic Factor's fire-and-lava portal world. Covers required fire protection, enemy types, Antejuice water sources, key drops, and how to navigate the vertical terrain without dying to the environment.

Player Note -- Vex Runner: Mycofields punishes the wrong gear harder than any other portal world in the game. Radiation protection does nothing here. Cold resistance does nothing here. You need fire resistance specifically, and you need enough of it. I died to lava proximity damage on my first visit while wearing gear that had protected me through three other portal worlds.
Community: Entering Mycofields with incorrect protection gear is the most common first-visit death cause on Steam Discussions — most players describe a rapid environmental death before engaging a single enemy — based on Steam Discussions.
Location and access
Mycofields is located in Anteverse 2-B — a hot portal world with flowing lava, caves, cliffs, rock ledges, and jump pads. Access is through a portal discovered during progression through the later sectors.
Environment type: Extreme heat, lava flows, and spore-producing fungal life. Standard survival gear is not appropriate here.
Required protection
This is the most important thing to verify before entering:
Fire resistance: You need either:
- Fire Proximity Suit (full protection), OR
- Armor providing +3 or higher heat resistance
Radiation protection, cold resistance, and standard Hazmat gear provide no benefit against Mycofields heat damage. Do not enter without confirmed fire protection.
Spore protection: Wear a mask with the Airtight Seal property to block fungal spores. Spore exposure causes a status effect that drains health over time.
Enemies
| Enemy | Notes |
|---|---|
| Mushroom Peccaries | Melee; standard Peccary behavior with fungal variant characteristics |
| Scuttlebugs | Fast-moving; prioritize if they're blocking a route you need |
| Exors | Standard Exor behavior; nets effective for crowd control |
| Pests | Standard Pest behavior; Volatile Pests require distance management |
All enemies are manageable with combat preparation. Exors drop their standard loot table here — see the Leyak Essence Farming Guide for Exor drop details.
Water inside Mycofields
Water is scarce in Mycofields but available:
Bowl-shaped plants scattered through the environment contain Antejuice. Antejuice functions like clean water — it is safe to drink and provides double the thirst fill compared to standard water. Harvesting from bowl plants is your primary water source for extended runs.
Do not rely on carried water alone for long Mycofields sessions. Identify bowl plant locations early in each run.
Key drops and resources
| Item | Source |
|---|---|
| Anteverse Gel | Enemy drops, environmental |
| Carapace | Scuttlebug and Exor drops |
| Carbuncle Mushrooms | Fungal growth nodes in the environment |
| Exit buff: Medi-Shroom | Applied on leaving Mycofields |
Collectible: Exor figurine — located in a file cabinet near the GATE outpost within Mycofields. One-time collect.
Navigation notes
Mycofields has vertical terrain with cliffs and ledges. Jump pads are scattered through the environment and provide upward traversal. Unlike Voussoir, the fall damage in Mycofields is compounded by landing near lava. Identify jump pad locations before committing to vertical routes.
There is a portal at the top of the world for exit after full exploration. No shortcut unlocked upon completion.
Pre-entry checklist
Before entering Mycofields:
- Confirm you have Fire Proximity Suit OR armor with +3 or higher heat resistance
- Confirm you have a mask with Airtight Seal property
- Know your planned route — lava areas require route awareness before you're in them
- Carry at least one healing item beyond what you'd normally bring — environmental damage compounds with enemy damage here
- Note the exit portal location on entry — it's at the top of the world
| Check | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Fire protection | Fire Proximity Suit or +3 heat resistance armor |
| Spore protection | Mask with Airtight Seal |
| Water | Identify bowl plants early — they contain Antejuice |
| Healing | More than your normal carry amount |
Mycofields as a farming destination vs. other portals
Mycofields has the highest environmental difficulty of any portal world. It is also the primary source of Anteverse Gel, Carapace, and Carbuncle Mushrooms. The trade-off is deliberate:
- If you need Anteverse crafting materials, Mycofields is the source
- If you don't need those specific materials, there is no reason to go there over easier alternatives
- Mycofields is not a substitute for Rise (healing), Night Realm (Night Essence), or Flathill (Power Cells/food)
Plan visits when your material need specifically requires Mycofields drops. Don't farm here by default.
Resource yield expectations
Planning guide for Mycofields farming sessions:
| Resource | Source | Yield per run |
|---|---|---|
| Anteverse Gel | Enemy drops, environmental | Medium — varies by enemy count killed |
| Carapace | Scuttlebug and Exor drops | Medium — requires dedicated enemy farming |
| Carbuncle Mushrooms | Fungal growth nodes | High — nodes are distributed throughout |
| Exor figurine collectible | File cabinet near GATE outpost | One-time only |
Plan your run around which resource you need. Carbuncle Mushrooms are easiest to collect in bulk — their nodes are environmental and don't require combat. Anteverse Gel and Carapace require killing specific enemy types. Factor in the fire resistance gear cost when evaluating whether a Mycofields run is worth it for your current material need.
