Player Note -- Dr. Kael: Rise is reached through the laser lab puzzle in the Adjustment Wing of Cascade Labs. You need to solve the puzzle and burn off the Slime Wall blocking the portal. Once in, the temptation is to engage everything. Resist it. Rise rewards players who move efficiently and prioritize the medkit spawns over combat encounters.
Community: Treating Rise as a combat portal on the first visit is the most common mistake described in Rise-related Steam Discussions threads — most players describe burning through resources on enemies they could have avoided — based on Steam Discussions.
Unlock requirements
Rise requires two completed prerequisites:
- Complete the laser reflector puzzle in the Adjustment Wing of Cascade Laboratories
- Burn off the Slime Wall blocking the Rise portal entrance
Both are in the Cascade Labs complex. The Laser Reflector Puzzle guide covers the puzzle solution. The Slime Wall requires a fire-based tool or weapon to clear.
Do not attempt Rise before completing Cascade Labs. The access route goes through areas that require Manufacturing West and Synchrotron clearance.
What Rise is for
Rise is primarily a medkit resupply route. The portal world contains medkit spawns that reset on the portal world schedule (twice weekly). For players in late-midgame who consume medkits regularly during combat runs, Rise provides a reliable resupply loop that doesn't depend on manufacturing or trading.
Secondary resources include:
- Other healing items alongside medkits
- Crafting components (secondary priority)
First visit approach
- Enter with at minimum one healing item reserved — do not enter empty
- Identify medkit spawn locations on your first pass before engaging in combat
- Avoid prolonged combat unless you have strong healing reserves — enemies in Rise are not trivial
- Exit once you have medkits and your healing reserves are stable; do not push the run past your resource comfort zone
Repeatable loop
After the first visit, Rise works as a routine resupply stop:
- Check the portal world reset schedule (Tuesday/Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday midnight)
- Visit after resets to collect medkit spawns
- Time visits around your actual healing-item consumption rate — there's no need to visit every reset if your stockpile is full
Stop conditions
Leave Rise when:
- You have the medkits you came for
- Your remaining healing items drop below what you need for the extraction
- You've been in the portal longer than one focused run warrants — don't extend into a second objective without reassessing your supplies
Rise vs. other portal worlds for healing items
| Portal world | Medkit availability | Other healing |
|---|---|---|
| Rise | High — dedicated medkit spawns | Yes |
| Flathill | Low — not a primary healing source | Some food |
| Far Garden | None | No |
| Night Realm | None | No |
| Mycofields | None | Medi-Shroom exit buff only |
Rise is the only portal world specifically structured around healing-item farming. If medkit supply is your current constraint, Rise is the correct destination.
Common first-visit errors
| Error | What happens | Correct approach |
|---|---|---|
| Fighting all enemies | Supplies depleted before reaching medkits | Move past non-blocking enemies |
| Not knowing the medkit spawn locations | Leave without the primary resource | Scout spawn locations on first pass |
| Staying past supply comfort zone | Extraction becomes risky | Set an exit condition before entering |
| Forgetting to use portal after first visit | Have to repeat the laser puzzle | Portal is accessible after first unlock — no repeat puzzle needed |
Post-first-visit routine
After your first successful Rise run, establish a routine:
- Note which medkit spawns you found and their locations
- Check the portal world reset schedule — plan returns around reset timing
- Add Rise to your regular farming rotation when medkit supply drops below one full run's worth
- Don't visit between resets — the spawn nodes won't have refreshed
Comparing Rise to other healing sources
Rise is not the only healing item source in the game, but it is the most reliable renewable source for medkits specifically. The comparison matters for planning:
| Source | Type | Renewable | Reliability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rise portal | Medkits + healing items | Yes (twice weekly reset) | High |
| Trader NPCs | Varies by trader inventory | Yes (trader restock) | Medium |
| Sector loot | Varies | No (fixed spawn) | Low after first clear |
| Crafting | Requires components | Yes | Depends on material supply |
Use Rise as your primary medkit resupply once it's unlocked. Use traders for supplements. Don't rely on fixed sector loot for ongoing medkit supply past early game.
