Security cameras and surveillance: detection, evasion, and system reset
Category: Combat
Field Complaint
Cameras keep spotting me and calling enemies. Can I disable them or do I just have to sneak?
Validated Response
You can disable them, hack them, or reset the entire security system — but until you do, you are going to have a bad time. The GATE facility security cameras detect players and call reinforcements or enemies to your position, turning a quiet looting run into a frantic combat encounter. Before you reset the security system, cameras are obstacles you either sneak around or manually disable. After you complete the Reset Security System objective — a main story goal in the Security Sector — cameras become much less threatening because you regain control over the facility's surveillance network. Resetting the system also lets you open containment cells and access previously locked areas, which is why it is a story objective in the first place. For security doors in the meantime, craft a Keypad Hacker — Tier 1 handles basic doors, and higher-tier hackers access higher-tier security doors. When sneaking past cameras, plan routes to avoid their sightlines, use corners and timing to slip past during rotation gaps, and crouch-walk to reduce camera detection range the same way it reduces enemy detection range. The cameras have predictable sweep patterns once you watch them for a few seconds, so take a moment to observe before sprinting through. Once the security system is reset, you will wonder why you ever stressed about cameras at all.
