Containment Block Helmholtz walkthrough: Level 3 clearance, X-ray barrier, and security reset
How to get through Containment Block Helmholtz: cross the turret gap, survive the zombie portal world, farm Leyak Essence for the X-ray barrier, and reset the security system without dying.
The Problem
“I've been circling Containment Block C for two hours. There's a turret shooting me across a broken bridge and some yellow barrier I can't open. What is the actual sequence here?”
The Problem
I've been circling Containment Block C for two hours. There's a turret shooting me across a broken bridge and some yellow barrier I can't open. What is the actual sequence here?
The Solution
Containment Block Helmholtz is the Level 3 clearance gauntlet. It has four distinct stages: (1) cross the live-fire checkpoint, (2) complete the zombie portal world, (3) pass the X-ray barrier with Leyak Essence, and (4) reset the security system. Each stage requires specific items. If you arrive without them, you will backtrack.
Prerequisites: What to Bring
| Item | Why You Need It |
|---|---|
| Keypad Hacker Tier 3 | Opens the DIVAK doors in C-Block |
| 3-4 Wooden Bridges (or Gravity Cube IS-0052) | Cross the broken gap at the turret checkpoint |
| X-Ray Tower or X-Ray Lamp | Kill Leyaks for their Essence |
| 5 Leyak Essences (minimum) | 1 to craft X-Ray Lamp, 4 to open the yellow barrier |
| Hazmat Suit + Anti-Radiation Pills | Leyak Essences are radioactive — don't carry them unprotected |
| Electro-Thrower or strong ranged weapon | For the snipers and soldiers in the security control room |
| Healing Briefcase + Medkits | This is a long sequence. Bring supplies. |
Stage 1: Reach and Cross the Turret Checkpoint
- From the Containment sector hub, find C-Block — the large multi-level open area.
- Use your Tier 3 Keypad Hacker on the DIVAK doors marked with clearance level 3.
- Take the elevator to the 2nd or 3rd floor. Look for a room covered in yellow paint and goop — it's hard to miss.
- Drop down the hole in the yellow room. Use Level 3 clearance to open the gate at the bottom.
- Follow the path until you reach a checkpoint: machine gun turrets on one side, a broken gap in the walkway, and you on the other side.
Crossing the Gap
Four methods, ranked by reliability:
- Wooden Bridges (recommended): Craft 3-4 bridges. Place them across the broken railing while standing back from the turret line of fire. Build fast — turrets track slowly but hit hard once locked.
- Gravity Cube (IS-0052): Activate it to reduce gravity, then jump across. Works if you don't have bridges.
- Jump Pad: Craft a spring pad and launch yourself over. Risky — overshoot and you land in turret fire.
- Shield + sprint: Block with a Metal Shield and run. Only attempt if you know the exact path. Not recommended for first clear.
Once across, open the flimsy iron gate. Enter the nearby vent to hack a keypad — this opens additional doors for the next stage.
Stage 2: Helmholtz (Zombie Portal World)
After crossing, you find a square portal. This leads to Helmholtz — a furniture store dimension filled with zombies.
Critical detail: Enemies do not spawn until you press the first switch. Use this grace period to scout the layout.
- Bring 2 flashlights. It is extremely dark. The helmet-mounted light is not enough.
- Navigate downward through the store. Look for wall switches — activate all of them.
- After the last switch, enemies spawn. Fight your way back up or sprint past — the elevator activates after all switches are flipped.
- The portal teleports you back to the top when complete. Take the elevator down to confirm it works (you will use it later).
Mistake people make: Clearing the zombie portal, then leaving without enabling the elevator. If you die later, you have to redo the entire portal sequence. Enable the lift.
Stage 3: The X-Ray Barrier (Leyak Essence Gate)
After Helmholtz, proceed through a steam-filled corridor with scattered enemies. At the end is an office overlooking the control center. A yellow X-ray barrier blocks your path.
- Interact with the wall terminal next to the barrier. This teaches you the X-Ray Tower and X-Ray Lamp recipes. Do not skip this — you cannot open the barrier without these items.
- You need 4 Leyak Essences to unlock the barrier.
How to Get Leyak Essence
Leyaks are those floating tentacle things that slowly drift toward you while making a soft sighing sound. They phase through walls and cannot be killed by normal weapons.
- X-Ray Tower: Build one at your base entrance. Plug it into a socket. Lure a Leyak into the beam — it vaporizes instantly and drops 1 Leyak Essence (red orb).
- X-Ray Lamp (portable): Craft using 1 Leyak Essence + battery components. This is the mobile version — you are not tethered to a wall outlet.
- Farm 5 total: Use 1 Essence to craft the X-Ray Lamp. Farm 4 more for the barrier. (Alternatively, farm all 5 and skip the lamp by using X-Ray Towers placed along patrol routes.)
⚠️ Leyak Essences are radioactive. Do not carry them in your inventory during the farm. Store them at base. When you're ready to transport all 4, equip a Hazmat Suit and take anti-radiation pills. The radiation damage stacks per Essence — carrying 4 unprotected kills you in under a minute.
Bring the 4 Essences to the X-ray barrier terminal, insert them, and the barrier drops.
Stage 4: Reset the Security System
You are now on the lowest floor of the security control center. Turret placement is dense.
- Hug the right wall as you enter. There is cover along the right side.
- At the far corner, sprint left toward the elevator. Turrets will fire — you should survive the dash if you are at full health.
- Take the elevator to the upper floor.
- Two snipers are positioned at the far end. Use pillars and kitchen counters as cover. Advance methodically.
- The masked sniper (the one with face covering) hits harder — prioritize them. An Electro-Thrower works well at close range.
- Past the snipers, follow the hallway with dead bodies. Climb the stacked suitcases at the end.
- At the top: the security system reset button. Press it. The turrets below shut down permanently.
What the Reset Unlocks
- The live-fire turret zone is now safe to traverse freely
- Access to Anteverse Gel crafting material
- Opens the path toward Tier 4 Keypad Hacker (requires components from Canaan portal in Wildlife Pens)
- Security Sector becomes accessible for the next stage of progression
Common Deaths and How to Avoid Them
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Turrets shred me while building bridges | Stand at max build distance. Turrets have a slow lock-on — you have 2-3 seconds before they start tracking |
| Zombie portal is pitch black | Bring a second flashlight. Your helmet light is not enough |
| Leyak Essence is killing me in my inventory | Hazmat Suit + anti-rad pills. Store Essences at base, only transport all 4 in one trip |
| Can't find the reset button | Climb the stacked suitcases in the hallway with bodies. The button is on the top level |
| Inner Wing gate still locked after reset | There's a button in the observation room opposite the Curie Wing — check the overlook windows |
