Fishing locations: every fish, every bait, and where to catch them

Complete fishing location guide for Abiotic Factor. Every fishable body of water, what lives there, and which bait to use for each species.

The Problem

“I have been fishing at the same spot for an hour and I still have not caught the fish I need. Where do I actually go?”

The Problem

I have been fishing at the same spot for an hour and I still have not caught the fish I need. Where do I actually go?

The Solution

Fish in Abiotic Factor are location-specific. Each body of water has its own species pool, and some fish only appear at specific times of day or with specific bait. Here is every known fishing spot and what lives there.

How Fishing Works

Before we get into locations:

  1. Craft a Fishing Rod — see fishing and bait guide for crafting requirements
  2. Bait matters — each species has a preferred bait. Using the wrong bait means you will never catch that fish
  3. Time of day matters — some fish are dawn/dusk only, others nocturnal
  4. Water type matters — pool water, fountain water, and eel-infested water are different categories
  5. Catch one of each early — when you catch a new species, it unlocks its specific bait for future targeted fishing

Fishing Locations

Office Sector — Cafeteria Pool

The first fishing spot most players find. Shallow, safe, but limited species variety.

AntefishBasic BaitAll dayMost common catch. Used in Antefish Soup.
Small CarpBasic BaitAll dayCooking ingredient
GoldfishBasic BaitDawn/DuskRare. Decorative and cooking.

Strategy: Start here. Catch Antefish for early-game healing via Antefish Soup. Move to better spots once you have the Fishing Rod upgraded.

Plaza Fountain (Office Sector Surface Level)

The iconic fountain in the central plaza area. Better variety than the Cafeteria pool.

Mermaid FishMermaid BaitDawnRare. High-value cooking ingredient

Strategy: Your upgrade from the Cafeteria. Farm Antefish here during the day, then switch to Radfish bait at night for radiation-resistance food prep.

Manufacturing Sector — Industrial Waterways

Deeper water with tougher fish. Eel-infested in some sections (see below).

Eel-Infested Waters (Manufacturing + Canaan)

Special water type. Eels only spawn here. Entering the Manufacturing Sector usually unlocks access to these waters.

Strategy: Fish Eels at night with Eel Bait. Electric Eels are rare — if you do not get one after several night cycles, move to a different eel-infested spot.

Cascade Labs — Research Pool

Clean, controlled water inside the Lab Sector. Contains rare research specimens.

Canaan (Portal World)

Exclusive fishing in the Canaan portal world. Eel-infested waters here have unique spawns.

Bait Progression

The bait system is progressive. Catch a new species once, and its specific bait unlocks for crafting.

Antefish BaitAntefishCatch an Antefish
Radfish BaitRadfishCatch a Radfish
Eel BaitEelCatch an Eel
Carp BaitSmall or Large CarpCatch a Carp
Mermaid BaitMermaid FishCatch a Mermaid Fish

Rule: The first time you want a specific fish, use Basic Bait and hope. After you catch it once, craft its dedicated bait and targeted fishing becomes reliable.

Fishing Strategy Summary

  1. Start at Cafeteria Pool with Basic Bait. Catch Antefish for early-game food loop.
  2. Unlock Antefish Bait, then move to Plaza Fountain for Radfish and Mermaid Fish.
  3. At night, switch to Eel-Infested Waters in Manufacturing for Eels and Electric Eels.
  4. Once in Labs, fish the Research Pool for unique specimens.
  5. In the Canaan portal world, target the exclusive Eel variants at dawn and dusk.
