Navigating the Office Sector: Key Rooms, Access Requirements, and Route Planning

The Office Sector serves as the player's introduction to the GATE Cascade Research Facility and remains a frequently visited hub throughout the game. While the sector appears straightforward, its three floors, multiple wings, and locked rooms require careful navigation and progressive clearance upgrades. This guide covers the sector's layout, key locations, access requirements, and practical route choices.

Prerequisites and Early Priorities

Before exploring the Office Sector in depth, players should complete the tutorial sequence and craft a Keypad Hacker at a Crafting Bench. The Keypad Hacker requires one Controller, one LCD Screen, and one Infrared Emitter, and is unlocked by speaking with Alice Mayfield or collecting the components. This device opens Clearance Level 1 keypads and is necessary to access several rooms in the sector.

The Progression Guide advises players to prioritize completing the Office Sector before investing time in base-building or side projects. This is because completing the sector grants access to Flathill, a Portal World where resources respawn on a regular twice-weekly schedule. Establishing a supply of renewable materials early makes later expansion significantly easier.

Players should also address food and water needs early. The cafeteria provides a Frying Pan and cooking ingredients, while sinks and vending machines offer water sources. The gym's swimming pool provides an infinite water source and fishing opportunities.

Level 1: Plaza, Cafeteria, and Tram Access

The Plaza is the central hub where players begin. It connects to the Cafeteria to the south, Reception to the north, and a stairwell to Level 2 in the east. The Plaza contains a fountain for fishing, vending machines, and Warren Bunnings, the first trader encountered. No security clearance is required in the Plaza, and enemy spawns are rare here.

The Cafeteria contains a kitchen stove, sinks for water, and food items on counters and in cabinets. The Chef trader appears when Cooking Level 3 is reached. A Storage Room east of the Cafeteria holds basic crafting materials such as wood planks and plastic scrap, making it a useful early stop for new characters.

The Tram Station is located in the lower northwest area of Level 1, accessible via a stairwell from the Plaza. The tram travels to Manufacturing West, Cascade Laboratories, and Containment. The tram schedule posted on the wall shows all stops and is worth checking before traveling.

The Basement is accessible via a stairwell near the Tram Station. It contains maintenance corridors, a generator room, and locked storage. Some rooms require Clearance Level 1, so players should return here after crafting the Keypad Hacker. Loot includes electrical components and Makeshift Battery parts, with a rare chance of finding a Security Pistol in a locker.

Level 2: Security Office, Surveillance, and Offices

Level 2 is reached via stairwells from the Plaza or near Reception. The Security Office is a popular early base location because it contains a coffee machine that grants a movement speed buff and metal security shutters that can be closed to block enemy access. No clearance is required to enter.

The Surveillance Room, adjacent to the Security Office, contains camera monitors and computers that yield Tech Scrap and computer components. This is a reliable source of early electronics.

The Level 2 Offices are divided into West and East wings. The West Wing contains cubicles, desks, and filing cabinets with office supplies, including duct tape and staplers. Staplers are a high-value crafting component worth collecting during each visit. The East Wing includes additional offices, a conference room, and a locked IT closet requiring Clearance Level 2. Inside the IT closet, server racks provide scrap electronics, with a rare chance of a Computation Brick.

The Gym in the West Wing features a swimming pool for infinite water and fishing, exercise equipment, and a single entrance. Its single entrance makes it a viable base location for players who prefer more space than the Security Office.

Level 3: Administration, Rooftop, and Director's Office

Level 3 is reached via a stairwell at the far end of Level 2. The Admin Offices contain executive offices with higher-tier loot than Level 2. Most doors require Clearance Level 2. Loot includes advanced electronics and a rare chance of a Memory Brick on a desk.

Rooftop Access leads to an exterior rooftop overlooking the facility entrance. This area connects to a surface tunnel entrance used for late-game escape. Radio equipment can be found here, and players should be aware of weather exposure, as heat and cold effects apply depending on in-game conditions.

The Director's Office is a large corner office containing a personal safe. The door requires Clearance Level 3. The safe contains high-value loot including Quantum Glass, rare weapon components, and occasionally a unique armor piece. Players should return to this room after obtaining Level 3 clearance.

Route Planning and Keypad Door Locations

The Keypad Hacker opens specific doors in the Office Sector. These include the Level 1 Security Kiosk, the Level 2 Offices by and above the Elevator to Level 3, the Level 2 Security Checkpoint, and the Silo 3 door. Players should prioritize hacking these doors to access loot and progression paths.

Route Decision Table: Level 2 to Level 3 Access

Starting PointPreferred RouteWhen to UseNotes
PlazaEast stairwell to Level 2, then far end stairwell to Level 3When heading directly to Admin or Director's OfficeAvoids Security Office detour
Security OfficeLevel 2 main corridor east, then stairwellWhen gathering loot from Level 2 offices along the wayEfficient for multi-stop runs
Tram StationLevel 1 stairwell to Level 2, then Level 2 stairwellWhen arriving via tramShortest path from tram arrival

Recovery Advice: Stuck or Lost

If lost, check walls for signs naming nearby rooms. The environment also uses lights and paint markings to indicate paths. If a door requires a clearance level you do not have, note the location and return after upgrading the Keypad Hacker. The Keypad Hacker can be upgraded through multiple tiers, eventually reaching Tier 5, which opens Clearance Level 5 keypads and below. The Tier 5 upgrade requires a Tier 4 Keypad Hacker, one Coil Winding, one Photon Receptor, and one Transformer Bushing, unlocked by reading the "Photon Receptors" email and viewing the attachment.

Numbered Workflow: Clearing the Office Sector

  1. Complete the tutorial and craft the Keypad Hacker at a Crafting Bench using one Controller, one LCD Screen, and one Infrared Emitter.
  2. Explore Level 1 thoroughly, collecting food, water, and basic materials from the Cafeteria and Storage Room. Visit the Tram Station and note the tram schedule.
  3. Move to Level 2, establish a base in the Security Office or Gym, and use the Keypad Hacker to open the Level 1 Security Kiosk and Level 2 Offices. Collect office supplies and electronics.
  4. Progress to Level 3 via the far end stairwell. Open the Level 2 Security Checkpoint and Admin Offices. Return to the Director's Office after obtaining Clearance Level 3.
  5. Complete the sector to unlock the "Office: Managed" achievement and gain access to Flathill for renewable resource farming.
