Abiotic Factor chemistry guide: all Chemistry Bench recipes, coatings, tinctures, and flasks

Complete Abiotic Factor chemistry reference — every Distillation type, all 24 Chemistry Bench recipes (Tinctures, Coatings, Flasks), ingredient locations, and how to unlock each chemistry category.

The Problem

“The Chemistry Bench has sixteen distillation types and I don't know which ingredients produce which type. I've been feeding random items into it for an hour and got nothing useful.”

The Problem

The Abiotic Factor chemistry system has sixteen distillation types and I don't know which ingredients produce which type. I fed random items into the Chemistry Bench for an hour and got nothing useful.

The Solution

The Chemistry Bench (and its upgrade, the Distillation Bench) uses a two-step system. First, you distill ingredients into one of 16 types. Then you combine those distillations into recipes — Tinctures (buffs), Coatings (weapon/armor enhancements), and Flasks (throwables). Here is every recipe.

How Chemistry Works

Step 1: Distill Ingredients → Distillation Types

Feed ingredients into the Chemistry Bench or Distillation Bench. Each ingredient produces a specific distillation type. The bench's UI shows which type an ingredient yields before you commit.

Step 2: Combine Distillations → Recipes

At the same bench, combine the distillation types in specific ratios to produce the final item. Order of ingredients does not matter — only the correct types and quantities.

Priority Recipes (Craft These First)

PriorityRecipeReason
1Antiheat TinctureRequired for Tarasque boss / Mycofields. Without it, you die to ambient heat.
2Electromagnetic CoatingSecurity Bots and Containment Robots are everywhere. +robot damage is universally useful.
3Thermal CoatingFire damage adds to every hit. Cheap materials (Vigorous + Alien + Boiling).
4Megaton FlaskHighest burst damage throwable. Deletes clustered enemies.
5Speedy TinctureMovement speed is defense. Cheap recipe. Always have 3 in inventory.

Common Mistakes

MistakeFix
Feeding rare ingredients without checking typeThe bench UI shows what distillation an ingredient produces BEFORE you commit. Check first.
Confusing Chemistry Bench vs Distillation BenchChemistry Bench = Tinctures + Coatings. Distillation Bench = advanced chemistry (enethiol, isotopes, liquid nitrogen). They are different.
Ignoring FlasksFlasks are AOE tools, not just damage. Updraft Flask launches enemies off cliffs. Pheromone Flask pulls adds away from bosses.
Not stocking Vigorous ingredientsVigorous is used in 15 of 24 recipes. Farm pumpkins, apples, potatoes constantly.
