Liquid Nitrogen and Unstable Isotopes: Cryo-Lab to Mini-Collider

Late-game lab materials demand protected storage and stable power. Route Liquid Nitrogen through Cryo-Lab bottle loops, and stage a Lead-lined Crate beside the Mini-Collider before starting isotope production.

The Problem

“I finally made late-game lab materials, then the container, power draw, or radiation damage ruined the run.”

⚡ Before You Start

Unlock Cryo-Lab access for Liquid Nitrogen bottle routes.
Build a Mini-Collider with a stable, isolated power branch.
Craft a Lead-lined Crate and place it beside the Collider before starting production.

🎒 What to Bring

■Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate at the Collider output.
■Stable power branch with nonessential loads turned off.
■Hazmat Suit for isotope radiation during handling.

Prerequisites

  • Unlock Cryo-Lab access for Liquid Nitrogen bottle routes.
  • Build a Mini-Collider with a stable, isolated power branch.
  • Craft a Lead-lined Crate and place it beside the Collider before starting production.

Recommended Loadout

  • Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate at the Collider output.
  • Stable power branch with nonessential loads turned off.
  • Hazmat Suit for isotope radiation during handling.

Common Mistakes

  • 1.Producing unstable materials before preparing the container that keeps them safe.
  • 2.Letting fridges, chargers, or defenses pull power during a sensitive lab workflow.

The Problem

I finally made late-game lab materials, then the container, power draw, or radiation damage ruined the run.

The Solution

Liquid Nitrogen and Unstable Isotopes are late-game lab materials that demand preparation before production. The common failure pattern: you build the production station, start the process, and lose the output because the storage container was not ready, the power (see power system) branch dipped, or radiation from the output damaged you before you could stash it. Here is the correct workflow for each.

Liquid Nitrogen — Cryo-Lab Bottle Routes Liquid Nitrogen is sourced from the Cryo-Lab in the Lab Sector. The Cryo-Lab has renewable bottle routes — identified spawn points for Liquid Nitrogen containers that refresh on the same cycle as other environmental loot. Key workflow:

  1. Scout the Cryo-Lab during a low-pressure exploration run. Map the bottle spawn locations.
  2. Identify the recharge station — this lets you refill certain equipment and extend your nitrogen farming loop without returning to base.
  3. Route Liquid Nitrogen bottles back to a dedicated storage crate. Label it clearly — Liquid Nitrogen is used in specific endgame recipes and accidentally consuming it on a low-priority craft wastes a rare resource.
  4. Prefer bottle routes over burning Air Canisters. Air Canisters are also scarce; using them for nitrogen when a renewable bottle route exists is inefficient.

Unstable Isotopes — Mini-Collider Production The Mini-Collider in the Lab Sector produces Unstable Isotopes. This is a multi-step production process with three non-negotiable prerequisites:

  1. Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate: Must be placed directly beside the Collider output BEFORE starting production. Unstable Isotopes emit radiation that spreads to adjacent items in regular storage. If you produce isotopes and your shielded crate is across the room, you take radiation damage during the walk. Crate. Beside. Collider. Before. Start.

  2. Isolated power branch: The Mini-Collider draws constant power during production. It must be on its own battery branch — Industrial Battery (100 charge) minimum, Carbon Battery (350 charge) preferred. Turn off ALL nonessential loads on the same circuit before starting. A fridge compressor or Tesla Coil spike during isotope synthesis wastes the input materials and you start over.

  3. Hazmat Suit (see armor and protection guide) at full durability: You will handle radioactive output. 90% radiation reduction is mandatory. If your suit durability is below 50%, repair it before approaching the Collider.

Production Sequence

  1. Verify the Lead-lined Crate is beside the Collider. Empty — you need space for the output.
  2. Verify the Collider's battery branch is isolated — no fridges, no chargers, no defenses sharing the circuit.
  3. Wear the Hazmat Suit. Check durability.
  4. Start the Collider. Production takes time — do not stand waiting. Leave, do other tasks, check back.
  5. When production completes, transfer Unstable Isotopes directly from the Collider into the Lead-lined Crate. Do not put them in your inventory and then walk across the base to storage — radiation ticks during the walk.
  6. Log which recipe the isotopes are reserved for. Stick a sign on the crate or note it mentally. Isotopes consumed on an impulse craft waste hours of production time.

Shared Failure Mode: Power Dips Both Liquid Nitrogen routes and Isotope production fail if the power branch is unstable. Before any late-game chemistry work: audit the battery branch. Turn off nonessential loads (lamps, chargers, secondary crafting station (see Crafting Bench upgrades)s). Confirm the battery has enough charge for the full production cycle. A Makehift Battery (50 charge) is insufficient — use Industrial (100) minimum, Carbon (350) for safety.

Step-by-Step

  1. Scout Cryo-Lab for Liquid Nitrogen bottle spawns. Map them. Identify the recharge station.
  2. Build a Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate. Place it directly beside the Mini-Collider output slot.
  3. Isolate the Collider's power branch: Industrial Battery minimum, no fridges or defenses sharing the circuit.
  4. Wear a full-durability Hazmat Suit before approaching the Collider.
  5. Start production. Leave. Do not stand waiting — the Collider takes time.
  6. When production completes, transfer isotopes directly from Collider into shielded crate. Do not walk across base carrying them.
  7. Route Cryo-Lab nitrogen bottle runs on the same schedule as other resource loops. Stockpile nitrogen in a labeled crate.
  8. Log which recipe each batch of isotopes is reserved for. Do not impulse-craft.

Common Mistakes

  • Starting Mini-Collider production without placing the shielded crate first — isotopes sit in the output slot while you run to craft one.
  • Letting fridges, chargers, or Tesla Coils share the Collider's power branch — voltage dips waste input materials.
  • Walking across base carrying Unstable Isotopes in inventory — radiation ticks during transit. Crate beside Collider.
  • Burning Air Canisters for Liquid Nitrogen when renewable Cryo-Lab bottle routes exist — canisters are finite; bottles respawn.
  • Consuming isotopes on an impulse craft without checking which higher-value recipe they were intended for.
