I need an Optic Lens for the Synchrotron repair but the game never tells you where to find one. I've searched every crate in Manufacturing West and found nothing.

The Solution

You cannot find an Optic Lens in a crate or craft one directly. You trade for it — with the Blacksmith in Manufacturing West. Give him a Reinforced Hose, get an Optic Lens back. Here is everything the Optic Lens is used for, because you will need more than one.

How to Get Optic Lens: The Trade

Trade ratio: 1:1. You can repeat this trade as many times as you have Reinforced Hoses.

Interact with the broken Synchrotron pumps in Manufacturing West first — this flags the story progression and may trigger the trade option.
Craft a Reinforced Hose — picking up a Steel Cable for the first time unlocks the Reinforced Hose recipe.

Reinforced Hose Recipe (The Trade Item)

Unlocked when you pick up a Steel Cable for the first time. Craft at any Crafting Bench.

Farming strategy: One loop through Manufacturing West mines yields 2-3 Steel Cables and 5-8 Metal Scrap (→ Box of Screws). Bring a Hammer for crate smashing. One loop ≈ 2-3 Optic Lenses.

Blacksmith Location

The Blacksmith is inside The Forge — a large warehouse in Manufacturing West. Look for:

A massive pot of boiling solder inside
The wooden trading box in front of him — drop items here to trade
The building is near the center of Manufacturing West, adjacent to the main factory floor

Fastest route: Take the Tram to Manufacturing West stop → exit tram → follow the main corridor east → The Forge is on the right, marked by the solder glow.

Recommendation: Craft 5+ Reinforced Hoses on your first trip to the Blacksmith. You will use Optic Lenses throughout the mid and late game and the Blacksmith is not on your main route after Manufacturing West.

Optic Lens vs Other Synchrotron Parts

The Synchrotron repair also requires a Diode and Fibre Optic Cable. Unlike the Optic Lens, those two items have very few secondary uses. The Optic Lens is the one you should stockpile.
