Lab Sector survival: Cryo-Lab, radiation layers, and accelerator prep
Labs are the facility's difficulty spike. Treat vertical lifts as risk gates, bring radiation protection, and never push deeper after a failed puzzle attempt without resetting your health and gear.
The Problem
âI entered Labs with a Level 3 card and died to radiation before I understood what the rooms were asking for.â
⥠Before You Start
đ What to Bring
Prerequisites
- Complete Level 3 access and understand the Manufacturing-to-Lab transition.
- Bring radiation or chemical protection before pushing deeper rooms.
- Have enough healing to recover from failed puzzle attempts or hazard ticks.
Recommended Loadout
- Hazmat Suit
- X-Ray Lamp
- Laser reflector or required puzzle tools
Common Mistakes
- 1.Entering Labs with access but no hazard protection.
- 2.Continuing deeper after a failed puzzle attempt instead of resetting health and gear.
The Problem
I entered Labs with a Level 3 card and died to radiation before I understood what the rooms were asking for.
The Solution
The Lab Sector is the facility's difficulty spike. Office teaches you to explore. Manufacturing teaches you to fight. Labs teach you that both are secondary to preparation and hazard management. Radiation is constant, puzzles gate every room, and pushing deeper with depleted gear gets you killed.
The Manufacturing-to-Lab Transition From the Manufacturing checkpoint, follow the white laser guide path â this is your route anchor into Labs. The first vertical lift marks the boundary: above this point, radiation increases, enemy types change, and retreat becomes harder. Treat each vertical lift as a risk gate: before stepping onto a lift, confirm you have enough Hazmat Suit (see armor and protection guide) durability, healing items, and a clear retreat path back to the checkpoint.
Radiation Management Lab Sector radiation is ambient and constant â it does not pulse or warn you. Your health ticks down silently. Layer your protection:
- Hazmat Suit (primary): 90% radiation reduction. Check durability before entering Labs. A suit at 50% will fail mid-route.
- Radiation Soup (secondary): Timed radiation resistance layer. Cook before entering Labs. Stacks with Hazmat Suit but does not replace it â the soup is a buffer, not a suit substitute.
- Iodine Tablets (emergency): Removes -10 radiation and grants 50% resistance for 15 minutes. Carry 2-3 for unexpected radiation spikes.
- Sitting trick: If you take radiation damage from inventory items, sit on any surface to nullify it. Free, instant, works everywhere. Do not burn Medkits trying to out-heal radiation â fix the source first.
Laser Puzzles Laser puzzles in the Adjustment Wing require aligning beams by angle and color. Common failure point: the beam angle looks correct but the color is wrong. Always validate both. If you fail a puzzle attempt:
- Stop. Do not try again immediately.
- Heal to full at your Briefcase (or use Medkits if no Briefcase is nearby).
- Repair Hazmat Suit if it took damage during the attempt.
- Re-attempt with full resources.
Pushing through a second or third attempt with half health and a damaged suit is how you die to radiation while staring at a laser beam. The puzzle is not timed. Your radiation resistance is.
Cryo-Lab Section The Cryo-Lab contains Liquid Nitrogen bottle routes and recharge loops. Key points:
- Liquid Nitrogen is used in advanced chemistry recipes (cooling, isotope handling).
- Recharge loops let you refill certain equipment â identify the recharge station before committing to Nitrogen-heavy routes.
- Cryo-Lab temperatures do not require special gear beyond the Hazmat Suit, but enemies in this section are faster and hit harder than standard Lab patrols.
Mini-Collider The Mini-Collider produces Unstable Isotopes for endgame crafting. Requirements:
- Lead-lined Crate: Store isotopes immediately after production. Radiation from isotopes spreads to adjacent items in regular storage (see storage organization guide).
- Stable power (see power system) branch: The Collider draws constant power. Put it on its own battery branch (Industrial 100 charge minimum) to avoid draining your food or defense circuits.
- Production takes time â do not stand next to the Collider waiting. Start production, leave, check back later.
Bio-Acoustic Key Gateway The Bio-Acoustic Key (from Containment Block access) becomes mandatory before deeper Lab and Containment routes. You cannot bypass these doors without it. If you reach a sound-based lock and do not have the key, you have two options: go back and get it, or explore other Lab sections until you are ready for the Containment push. Do not stand at a locked door burning resources while deciding.
Step-by-Step
- Check Hazmat Suit durability at 100%. Carry 2-3 Iodine Tablets. Cook Radiation Soup if available.
- Enter Labs from the Manufacturing checkpoint. Follow the white laser guide path as your route anchor.
- At each vertical lift: confirm protection durability, check retreat path, then proceed.
- For laser puzzles: validate beam angle AND color before assuming the door is bugged.
- If a puzzle attempt fails: heal fully, repair suit, then re-attempt. Never chain attempts with depleted resources.
- Explore Cryo-Lab for Liquid Nitrogen routes. Identify the recharge station before production runs.
- Mini-Collider: place on its own Industrial Battery branch. Store Unstable Isotopes in a Lead-lined Crate immediately.
- Once the Bio-Acoustic Key is obtained, return to Labs for deeper Containment access.
Common Mistakes
- Entering Labs without a full-durability Hazmat Suit â radiation kills silently and is constant.
- Chaining laser puzzle attempts with half health and damaged gear â reset between attempts.
- Storing Unstable Isotopes from the Mini-Collider in regular crates â radiation spreads to everything nearby. Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate only.
- Continuing deeper after a failed puzzle or hazard spike â retreat, reset, re-approach.
- Ignoring the Bio-Acoustic Key gate and standing at a locked door burning resources â go get the key or explore elsewhere.
