The Problem
Cascade Labs is huge and I keep getting lost between the elevators. What floor has what, and how do I get to Containment?
The Solution
Cascade Labs is the third major sector and the facility's difficulty spike. It is a multi-level research complex connected by elevators, laser-locked doors, and hazard zones. Here is every level, what is on it, and how to navigate between them.
How Cascade Labs Is Structured
Cascade Labs is vertical. Floors are accessed via the main elevator system. Each level has a distinct purpose and enemy composition. The sector connects Manufacturing West (entry) to Containment Block DIRAC (exit).
| Level | Key Locations | Access Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Entry from Manufacturing, initial corridors | Security Level 3 |
| Level 2 | Adjustment Wing (laser puzzle), Bio-Acoustic Key door | Security Level 3 + Bio-Acoustic Key |
| Level 3 | Cryo-Lab, Mini-Collider | Security Level 3 |
| Containment | Containment Block DIRAC | Bio-Acoustic Key |
Level 1: Entry Zone
Entering from Manufacturing West Follow the white laser guide path from the Manufacturing checkpoint. This is your route anchor â the beam traces the safest path through the initial corridors. The first vertical lift marks the boundary: above this point, radiation levels increase and enemy types change from Order soldiers to Exors and security robots.
Initial Rooms The first rooms are relatively safe. Loot them for Lab-exclusive materials but do not linger â the real content is upstairs. Key pickups: Lab Masks for spore protection, Test Tubes for anomaly capture, and Circuit Boards for crafting.
Level 2: The Core
Adjustment Wing â Laser Puzzle The laser reflector puzzle blocks access to the Rise portal world. The gated section requires aligning beams by angle and color. The Energy Pistol shortcut (shoot the purple orb) bypasses the puzzle entirely. See the laser puzzle guide for detailed solutions.
Rise Portal Once the laser puzzle is solved (or skipped), the Rise portal opens. This is the best renewable Medkit source in the game. Farm it on reset cooldown.
Bio-Acoustic Key Door The sound-based security door on Level 2 requires the Bio-Acoustic Key. Without it, you cannot progress deeper. See the Bio-Acoustic Key guide for how to obtain it.
Level 3: Deep Research
Cryo-Lab The Cryo-Lab contains Liquid Nitrogen bottle routes and recharge loops. Map the bottle spawns on your first visit â they refresh on environmental loot cycles. Identify the recharge station before committing to production runs. The Cryo-Lab is critical for late-game chemistry (see the Liquid Nitrogen guide).
Mini-Collider Produces Unstable Isotopes for endgame crafting. Requires:
- Dedicated power branch (Industrial Battery, 100 charge minimum)
- Lead-lined Crate or Hazard Crate beside the output
- Full-durability Hazmat Suit
Start production, leave, come back later â the collider takes time. Transfer isotopes directly into shielded storage.
Containment Approach
From Level 2, the Bio-Acoustic Key door leads to Containment Block DIRAC. The approach corridor is long, irradiated, and patrolled by Containment Robots. Key preparation:
- Hazmat Suit at 100% durability
- Decoys or smoke for robot disengage
- X-Ray Lamp for Leyak pressure
- The whiteboard outside DIRAC contains navigation instructions â read it before entering
Detailed Containment strategy is in the Security Level 4 guide.
Navigation Tips
- The elevator is your hub. Memorize which floor has which facility. Write down floor numbers if needed â there is no in-game map.
- Radiation is constant. Unlike Manufacturing where radiation is location-based, Cascade Labs has ambient radiation everywhere. Your Hazmat Suit is not optional.
- Vertical lifts are risk gates. Before stepping onto any lift, confirm you have enough suit durability, healing, and a retreat path.
- Exors become common. Switch to stun weapons (Nets, Electro-Thrower) before entering Cascade. Exors and Exor Monks resist standard damage but are vulnerable to stuns.
